Low limit
Identify incomplete fills, missing product and gross shortage before the pack leaves the line.
Protect compliance and yield
Inspect every pack against controlled high and low limits, reject non-conforming containers and reveal filler drift before it becomes avoidable waste.
Direct answer
Overfill and underfill detection is an inline quality check that compares each pack with defined upper and lower acceptance limits. A result below the low limit is treated as an underfill; a result above the high limit is treated as an overfill. Failed packs can be rejected automatically.
The measurement may be based on visible fill height, product presence, X-ray attenuation or another application-specific signal. It complements—not automatically replaces—legal metrology or checkweighing requirements. The correct method depends on what must be measured and how the pack presents it.
What the system must do
Pack-by-pack inspection protects the outgoing product while trend data gives production teams an earlier view of developing variation.
Identify incomplete fills, missing product and gross shortage before the pack leaves the line.
Detect excess fill that can cause giveaway, closure problems, contamination or downstream handling issues.
Monitor the centre and spread of results to spot filler movement before reject rates rise.

Specify the application
Useful tolerances come from the product and process. A clear brief prevents false rejects and makes the resulting data meaningful.
Typical applications
Suitability and tolerances are established from representative samples, production speed and the real operating environment.
Practical answers
Final performance is application-specific and is confirmed using representative packs, products and line conditions.
Ask an engineerNot necessarily. Many systems verify that a visible or sensed level falls within an accepted window. If an exact legal weight or volume measurement is required, the inspection method and compliance strategy must be specified accordingly.
The method can use a stable inspection position, controlled lighting, timing, multiple measurement regions or separate foam and liquid boundaries. Representative samples and real line behaviour are used to establish reliable rules.
It can identify excessive fills and show whether the process average is moving high. Trend information can support earlier filler adjustment, while any closed-loop feedback is engineered and validated for the specific filler interface.
The result is linked to that pack, which is tracked to the reject point. The system can activate the chosen reject device, confirm removal, record the event and raise an alarm or stop the line under defined fault conditions.
